Tomorrow’s Leaders NYC (TLNYC) is proud to present “All-Star Saturday: A Basketball Tournament & Community Empowerment Forum. While working to boost community-to-school engagement, this event will feature various professionals who have worked hard to overcome their circumstance to become a leader.
This event will feature music from DJ Tunez of Star Boy Records and be hosted by Announcer J.U Jones and Journalist Bianca Peart.

From 1:05P - 1:40P, former college athletes will answer questions about their path to success and leadership.

From 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM, attendees will have a chance to network with one another. Don't forget your business cards!
1:45 PMTLNYC Bronx vs TLNYC Brooklyn Tournament All-Stars
From 2:05 PM - 3:15 PM, TLNYC students from both Bronx and Brooklyn will battle it out in a all-star tournament to see which borough wears the crown.
2:05 PMBasketball Skills Challenge
From 3:20PM - 3:45PM, attendees will be invited to compete in a special basketball skills challenge. Winner will receive a special prize.
3:20 PMTLNYC Brooklyn Tournament All-Stars vs College Grads
From 3:50 PM - 5:00 PM, the TLNYC Brooklyn Tournament All-Stars will go head-to-head with the College Grads. Who do you think will win?

Purpose
Created to help improve school attendance for middle school youth in participating schools, the TLNYC Invitational Basketball Tournament was also created to:
- Foster an environment dedicated to teamwork and positivity through mentorship;
- Decrease youth arrest/crimes during the hours of 3 pm and 7 pm; and,
- Boost community-to-school engagement with a particular focus on involving families in school activity
As we continue to boost community-to-school engagement, All-Star Saturday is a community event where: 1) our top performing middle school student-athletes will faceoff with college graduates who were student-athletes in college, and 2) attendees will hear motivational stories from each guest player who will detail their journey from middle school to high school and then college.
Guest players attended and graduated from various colleges including, but not limited, to SUNY Plattsburgh, Hampton University, St. Francis College (NY), and York College. Featuring speed networking and a mini-mentoring meetup, this event will help students, family members, and community leaders understand the varied paths all students – with a special emphasis on student-athletes – can take to reach their full potential.
Data
Helping student-athletes understand alternative paths to success while enrolled in middle school is crucial. According to the NCAA (2017), only 7% of male and 3% of female high school athletes make it to play college-level basketball (D1, 2, or 3).
Goals
This event will 1) boost community-to-school engagement, 2) educate attendees on various issues middle school, high school, and college students face, and 3) establish newfound friendships, relationships, and mentorship between middle schoolers, former college athletes, and community leaders.
